Letter from the President

Dear Editors, Writers, and Reporters,

Thanks for your interest in zTrace Technologies!

We are set to revolutionize the computer security industry! Our patent pending software tracks and locates stolen laptops and PC's, and also protects the data on the computer in case it gets into the wrong hands. zTrace technology provides a complete Security Solution for a laptop owner.

Not only can we track a stolen laptop to the "new owner's" location, we can recover it! Our professional security staff works with local law enforcement to provide all the necessary information needed for retrieval of the stolen computer and -- more importantly -- the valuable data.

How would you feel if you lost your laptop? How would your employer feel? I know, from having had a close scrape myself.

Two years ago, my apartment was broken into. It was clear that the thief had rifled every drawer in the place. My first thought was "Oh no, my laptop!" I hadn't backed it up in 3 weeks, and I was going to be in hot water if I lost all my work. When I went to my desk, I found, to my amazement and relief, that it was still where I had left it. After that scare, I resolved to start a software company that would provide an answer to the massive problem of laptop theft. I had not been stung, but I had been galvanized into action. Today we are at last offering zTrace Gold and also running the last stretch of a 15-month development marathon, in which we are completing the other applications that will be included in our zSecurity Suite.

I happened to come out of my scare relatively unscathed. You, however, as well as your own readers, listeners, or viewers, might not be so lucky. I would be delighted to tell you more about our product line, how each of our applications works, and how we insure our keen emphasis on security—our protection of hardware, data, and customer privacy. You can reach me at 781-891-3097 or kesler@zTrace.com.

Sincerely,

Alexander Kesler
President, zTraceTM Technologies.
What if YOUR laptop gets stolen?

Fact Sheet

zTraceTM, Inc.
Headquartered in Waltham, MA, zTraceTM is a market leader in the development of intelligent tracing-and-recovery solutions for stolen laptops and wireless devices. zTraceTM software enables the police to locate computers and other internet-enabled devices after they have been stolen. The zTraceTM software is invisible, once it has been installed on the computer's hard drive, and thereafter functions stealthily, as a 'virtual tracing system'. If the stolen laptop has been equipped with zTraceTM then the first connection to the internet of that laptop by an unauthorized user activates zTraceTM, which is able to identify its exact location through our patent-pending technology. zTraceTM partners with law enforcement agencies around the country to locate and recover stolen property. Today, the average value of a stolen laptop is $6,285 including the hardware, software and replacement costs of lost data.

zTrace's First Flagship Product
zTraceTM has released its flagship software package that will be the keystone of a suite of services to be offered to mobile users. At present the basic version of zTraceTM is being offered as a free download from www.zTrace.com.

The following properties distinguish zTrace, which is:
  • extremely difficult to detect
  • takes up very little space on the hard drive
  • does not interfere with the operations of other programs
  • effectively traces the computer's unique ID number
  • provides the information necessary to locate and retrieve stolen property
  • assists the owner in contacting law enforcement agencies
  • patent-pending
  • cross-platform
  • results from over ten programming years invested in development
  • installs quickly over the Internet
  • will ultimately reduce the computer theft rate as the public becomes aware of the product’s effectiveness
The Laptop Theft Problem
It is reported that 319,000 laptops were stolen in the US in 1999 (IDC). Laptop theft poses a major risk when it comes to compromising corporate data, and this trend will only get worse with the increase in the use of handheld and other web-enabled devices. Often it is not the loss of the laptop itself that leaves victims reeling, but rather the loss of corporate proprietary information and data. Ten new features are currently under development for the zTraceTM suite of applications, including the ability to retrieve and delete files from the stolen laptop once it has been reported missing.

The zTraceTM Process

After you have registered with us, your computer is assigned a unique identification number, which is stored in zTrace's secure database.

The program resides on the computer's hard drive and remains undetectable to any unauthorized user.

If the computer is stolen, you can notify zTraceTM of the theft by calling a toll-free number: (877) 363-0976,by sending an email to theft-report@zTrace.com, or by transmitting a fax to (877) 966-2200. You can also notify zTraceTM online, by logging onto the zTraceTM Web Site.

When zTraceTM receives your theft report, we immediately start monitoring for the entry of your computer's ID onto the Internet.

As soon as your stolen computer is connected to the Internet, zTraceTM receives an alert signal, which activates the SOS function. This function allows us to locate your computer.

When the location of the unauthorized user is obtained, zTraceTM furnishes a report, via fax, to the police department closest to the PC's most recent location. Immediately after the report is sent, our recovery team establishes a telephone communication with the law enforcement agent in charge of the recovery process. By the time we contact the police, we will already have checked any criminal record the unauthorized user may have.

After the PC is retrieved, we will send it back to you.
